A Sense of Purpose in Your Life

What is the sense of purpose?
sense of purpose - the quality of having a definite purpose

Most people go through their daily lives acting like a robot, they fall into a rut from which they cannot climb out of. They are alway dissatisfied and lack motivation.  They sit back and expect things just to happen. Sorry, it does not work like that.  You have to get off your backside and start doing things, change one's way of thinking!

Funny enough people that lack motivation to improve their quality of life are motivated by one or more of the following:-

Selfishness - they ask constantly, "What will this do for me? How will I benefit from this?".

Greed - they accumulate wealth, property and other fancy things, in other words material possessions.

Hedonism - they indulge in shallow pleasures, sex, drugs, TV, fast food etc.  When these things become one's primary aim in one life, emptiness follows.

Pressure to Assimilate - they copy the latest trends and fads.  They do it because they fear being rejected by other people, you not a sheep stop acting like one.

The above motivators are very common these days, they lead to widespread discontentment.  No body can gain a sense of purpose by doing these things. Some people think they have gained a sense of purpose but they are lying to themselves

Deeper motivations
Motivations need to be based in deeper beliefs, in order to obtain a true sense of purpose.  Most motivations is seeded in shallow and selfish desires.  Deeper motivating beliefs have a common denominator.
Selfishness dominates most people's lives, the opposite is selflessness, is a true motivator, it fills us with a sense of purpose.  Doing things because you WANT to, because it helps other people (please don't forget animals!!).

Beliefs in motivations
A belief in my ability to impact the world in positive ways and ultimately to help create a better world.

A belief in the power of cultivating love and spreading it to others

A belief in the value of creating art and sharing it with the world.

A belief in reading, learning from my experiences, and gaining understanding in all forms – to better communicate with others and to become a better person.

A belief in the supreme importance of nurturing my relationships with my family and friends.

A belief in the value of trying to be kind and generous to everyone.

Peoples beliefs are most derived from their religion.  for most people it comes as a result of experience. Helping others and realising the suffering of other people that will help develop onces compassion.  I think that, for some people, beliefs such as these derive from their religion. For more people, though, I think they come as a result of experience.  Either through helping others or realizing the suffering of other people, you come to develop greater levels of compassion, this is a most rewarding way of live.

Practice what you preach

Caring about others and doing something about it.  Investing in other people's lives, instead of our own.  That is why we are here.  We are all in this life together, when we love and help others, life becomes amazing and all kind of things start to happen.

The working part is the hardest, you can't achieve this by sitting on your backside and delegating this task to others.  You will only find a true sense of purpose when you really put an effort into what you are doing. Start small, smile at someone, one a door for someone, give up your seat on the bus for an old person. Volunteer to work at an animal shelter, visit an old age home.  Make someone feel wonderful.

Make a habit helping others, you will become useful and content.  You will of have find the meaning what life is all about yourself.  Life is not just about you!!! Its about everyone and everything is this life.

Don't fool yourself, its hard work but very rewarding if you keep up at it.  Its not anything glamorous, but hey who cares at this point?

“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson

God said "Build a better
world."  I said, "How?
the world is such a
complicated, cold dark
place and there is nothing
I can do."
God said "Just build a better YOU."
